Information Services Librarian

Introduction:
The Library of Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC seeks an innovative, energetic and service-oriented librarian for the position of Information Services.   The Wesley library serves primarily seminary faculty and students enrolled in master’s level courses and the D. Min. program.

Position Summary:
The Information Services Librarian will develop and implement the Seminary’s Information Literacy Program, lead the library’s efforts to effectively use current and emerging technologies in the provision of information services; and supervise the areas of reference, circulation, interlibrary loan, serials and binding.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, and with the Director of the Library, implementing an information literacy program.
  • Identifying, evaluating, acquiring and providing convenient access to digital resources for the library’s collection.
  • Planning, implementing, and promoting innovative uses of current and emerging technologies in support of the library’s public services and internal processes.
  • Scheduling and participating in the library’s reference program.
  • Maintaining the user’s interface of Library’s OPAC and Website in conjunction with IT.
  • Supervising personnel responsible for circulation, interlibrary loan, serials and binding.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program at the time of appointment is required
  • A Master’s degree in religion or theology is desired
  • Minimum of five years working in public services
  • Significant experience working with digital resources
  • Experience in library instruction is desired
  • Experience working in a theological library is desired

Director of Financial Services

Position Description:

Position Title Director of Financial Services

Hours  Full Time
Salary Range Salary based upon Chicagoland Association Forum salary range for non-profits with $5,000,000 - $10,000,000 annual budgets

General Purpose:
The Director of Financial Services (DFS) serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Association. The DFS is responsible for developing, with the Executive Director and Departmental Directors, the annual budget for the Association, for managing and maintaining all ATLA financial accounts and investments, and overseeing all Financial Services operations personnel. The DFS serves as Personnel Manager, providing Human Resources Benefits support to all staff.  The DFS not only oversees the traditional responsibilities of a CFO, but is also a key strategist in developing business models that ensure the Association’s ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities while continuing to ensure its long-term stability.  The DFS is an exempt position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Serve as an essential, collaborative member of the ATLA executive leadership team
  • Supervise the Department of Financial Services and represent it in internal and external meetings
  • Oversee and manage Human Resources programs and activities
  • Represent ATLA to board, members, customers, and the public as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Planning

  • Provide strategic analysis for business opportunities, contracts, licenses, and product development and enhancement
  • Ensure that financial policies and procedures all fulfill the Board of Directors’ directives as expressed in the Association’s bylaws and Board Policy Manual
  • Develop policies and practices that maximize department heads’ ability to have ongoing access to all relevant financial information for their departments and projects
  • Lead and oversee the annual budget process
  • Plan and oversee activities of the Financial Services Department to ensure accuracy and efficiency, including budgeting, supervision of staff, and setting schedules to meet deadlines and goals
  • Establish and maintain sound policies and procedures in all financial services operations
  • Prepare periodic financial reports for the Executive Director, the Departmental Directors, the Board of Directors, and the membership of ATLA in an accurate and timely manner
  • Advise the Executive Director on all financial and business decisions

Operations/Financial Services

  • Prepare financial reports as required by funding and government agencies and ATLA partners
  • Evaluate the quality of the department’s performance
  • Prepare ATLA tax records and reports to government agencies
  • Lead and manage annual audit of ATLA’s financial records
  • Protect ATLA assets and mitigate risks
  • Monitor management and financial accounting standards to ensure that the Association follows best practices
  • Invest, monitor, and develop strategy for ATLA funds

Operations/Human Resources

  • Oversee Human Resources functions, including monitoring payroll, maintaining personnel records, and responding in a timely and appropriate way to all staff inquiries and requests related to Human Resources
  • Maintain and enhance ATLA’s Human Resources / Benefits programs by monitoring and implementing best practices
  • Negotiate benefit programs for ATLA staff with vendors and brokers

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related area
  • Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related area
  • Five years’ experience administering financial affairs of a non-profit organization or business with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Excellent strategic thinking, interpersonal communications skills

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of currently accepted financial procedures and systems that apply to non-profit organizations
  • Experience in cost analysis, revenue projection, and grant management
  • Familiarity and facility with Great Plains 10.0 (including FRX Report Writer), Microsoft CRM 4.0, Microsoft Excel’s advanced features, and the ability to train others
  • Successful experience in Human Resources / Benefits management
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in supervisory role
  • Evidence of ability to work with non-financial professionals in a leadership team
  • Ability to translate financial language and teach financial literacy
  • Ability to lead and collaborate within a diverse environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in academic online publishing and/or electronic database markets
  • CPA designation

Assistant Librarian/Cataloger (NEW POSITION)

The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP) seeks qualified applicants for a new full-time position – Assistant Librarian/Cataloger in the Krauth Memorial Library. The position will be available January 2010.

Position Summary
As the Assistant Librarian share responsibility with the Director and Library staff in administering the Krauth Memorial Library. As cataloger serve as OCLC expert within the library, maintain the database, and perform retrospective copy and original cataloging of materials in the Krauth Memorial Library.

Qualifications:
MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Ability to make independent decisions and cooperate with library staff.  Knowledge of AACR2, OCLC, MARC formats, LC classification, and LC Subject Headings. Knowledge of Windows and other software as necessary to work with OCLC and Endeavor/Voyager. Subject knowledge in religious studies, knowledge of German and supervisory experience helpful. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Reference Librarian

Pitts Theology Library, Emory University, Atlanta, GA (posted 12/04/09)

Job Description:
The Pitts Theology Library announces an opening for a Reference Librarian to begin on or before June 1, 2010. One of Emory University's six instructional libraries, Pitts supports the programs of the Candler School of Theology and the university's doctoral programs in religion. Its collections include over 550,000 volumes, and its staff of 16 supports vigorous programs in archives, special collections, and digital imaging. Planning for a new library facility is underway. Responsibilities: 
The successful candidate will be a member of the library's reference staff and have significant responsibility for electronic resources to aid instruction and research. The reference team provides orientation for all new students, works with faculty to develop and deliver library instruction and tutorials tailored to specific classes, and supplies ongoing research assistance to all patrons. Some weekend and/or evening hours may be expected. The electronic resources component of the job includes support for Blackboard and course reserves, development of locally produced digital resources (e.g., the Digital Image Archive), and instructional activities related to the library's Information Literacy initiative. In all its efforts, the Pitts Library strives to determine innovative and appropriate applications of technology to improve library services and increase access to resources.

Required Qualifications: 
ALA-accredited MLS or doctoral study in theology; excellent oral and written communication skills; commitment to public service and to theological education; experience with library systems and electronic resources; strong organizational skills; demonstrated creativity and/or initiative in performing duties; and ability to work collaboratively with other staff on inter-departmental projects.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Specialized knowledge in biblical studies; familiarity with United Methodist publications, polity, and history; technical proficiency and interest in new technologies for teaching, learning, and content provision (e.g., Blackboard, Drupal, XML); teaching proficiency and experience; involvement in library, scholarly, and/or pastoral associations (e.g., ATLA, ALA, SBL); graduate degree in theology; and foreign language expertise.
