 ATLA Affiliations - Associations

ATLA has a formal agreement with or belongs to the following associations:

American Library Association (ALA)

Founded in 1876, ALA is the oldest and largest library association in the world, with members in academic, public, school, government, and special libraries. As an affiliate member, ATLA promotes the goal of strengthening bonds between library associations domestically and abroad.

Association Forum of Chicagoland

The local chapter of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the Association Forum of Chicagoland, represents more than 150 nonprofit associations in Chicago. ATLA has been a member since 1996 and benefits from continuing education workshops and forums, publications, and peer institution consultations.

Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS)

From its 1947 constituting conference to the present, ATLA has maintained a close relationship with ATS. Approximately two-thirds of ATLA members are also members of ATS.

Bibliothèques Européennes de Théologie (BETH)

Following initial contacts with the Conseil by John Bollier in 1994 and 1995, ATLA formally established a relationship with the European association in 1996 when its president, André Geuns, attended that year's ATLA Conference in Denver. Exchange of member publications with all BETH members and presence at one another's meetings are beneficial both to BETH and ATLA members.

National Federation of Abstracting and Information Services (NFAIS®)

In 1997 ATLA became the 60th member of NFAIS. Affiliation with NFAIS provides ATLA with invaluable links with other index and database producers and keeps us abreast of significant movements and developments among our publishing peers.

National Information Standards Organization (NISO)

As one of just sixty-nine voting members of NISO, ATLA participates in establishing standards for the publishing industry and for libraries.

Red Latinoamericana de Información Teológica (RLIT; formerly the Latin American Theological Information Network)

ATLA and RLIT have agreed to explore a variety of ways to collaborate in matters of professional development, resource procurement, and indexing and preservation activities.
