Description: Lithograph of George Ripley Bliss. 1881. George Ripley Bliss was born in Sherburne, New York, on June 20, 1816. In 1838 he graduated from Madison University; two years later he graduated from Hamilton Theological Seminary. Bliss pastored the Baptist church in New Brunswick, New Jersey. In 1849 he became the Greek professor at the University at Lewisburg. During this time he received the degree of D.D. from Madison University. In 1874 he became the chair of Biblical Exegesis at Crozer Theological Seminary. Four years later, he received the degree of LL.D. from the University at Lewisburg. Died 1893. JPG file (335 KB)
