ATLANTIS is not moderated; however, subscription is upon request only to the list administrator. If you are not an ATLA Individual Member, or staff at an ATS school or ATLA member institution, you will receive the following reply to your request to subscribe:
| Your request for a subscription to ATLANTIS has come to me as the List Administrator. If you believe that you would like to become a participant in these discussions, please respond by telling me about yourself, in relevant, appropriate terms. I would also appreciate knowing what your expectations are as both a contributor and a reader to this list. |
To send a message to the list, use the address atlantis@list.atla.com. To post a reply, simply reply as you would to a normal e-mail. The e-mail will automatically be sent to the whole list. If you want to reply to an individual, then you will have to replace what is in the To: line with the individual's e-mail.
Through the Lyris web interface you can manage your personal settings
and read and search archived messages. You can access the interface at http://list.atla.com:81/read/all_forums/
The My Forums tab displays all the lists to which you are subscribed. To change your settings for a list, click on My Account when you are in that list. Here you can add a password for accessing the interface, change the way you receive messages, etc. For example, if you are going to be out of the office and do not want to your inbox to get cluttered, you can change your setting to digest to receive a summary at the end of each day or set the list to nomail so that you do not receive anything. The Messages tab lists messages that have been posted. If you change your settings so as not to be sent mail, then this is how you would read messages.
The Lyris manual is found at http://www.lyris.com/lm_help/7.0/.
Although the same functions may be performed using the web interface, occasionally you may want to perform a command through e-mail. Commands for all lists are sent to lyris@list.atla.com (note that this is not the same as the address of the list itself). If you want to change your ATLANTIS subscription so that you do not receive mail for a particular time, then send a message that says set atlantis nomail. To receive one message at the end of the day, say set atlantis digest. When you return, you can send a message that says set atlantis mail.
The Lyris manual is found at http://www.lyris.com/lm_help/7.0/.
Attachments are permitted on ATLANTIS, but in order to reduce the risk of infection from attachments it is advised that you paste information within messages if you can to avoid unnecessary attachments. If you need to include an attachment, as a courtesy to other readers identify in the body of your message the nature of the attachment ("I have attached a copy of the bibliography" or "Minutes from the meeting are attached," for example).
If you find that you cannot post to the list, it may be that your main or return address has been modified to one that is unrecognized by Lyris, the list management software. Lyris is not case-sensitive, but other changes, however minor, could cause your email address to fail when Lyris compares your "new" name to its subscriber list. This means that if you log on using any address but the one under which you are subscribed, your posting from that address will not be accepted. Any problems should be reported to the list administrator.
If you find that you have been removed involuntarily from the list—many days pass without any postings, as a possible symptom—send an e-mail message to the list administrator.
You can unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions included with every distribution from the list.
