Call for Session Proposals
2008 ATLA Annual Conference

The Annual Conference and Education Committees cordially invite members and friends of the American Theological Library Association to submit proposals for:

  • pre-conference workshops
  • papers
  • presentations
  • roundtables
  • posters or other special sessions

The conference will be held in Ottawa, Ontario June 25–28, 2008. The conference theme is La Connexion française / The French Connection. The Committees will consider proposals addressing the conference theme, theological librarianship, the academic disciplines of theology, and/or general librarianship.

  • Pre-conference workshops - scheduled for a half day (3.5 hours) or full day (7 hours) on Wednesday, workshop leaders operate in a classroom environment to deliver in-depth training on a specific topic
  • Papers - scheduled in a 1-hour time slot, a single presenter reads a paper or presents research to the audience, leaving time for brief questions and answers
  • Panels - scheduled in a 1.5-hour time slot, a moderator and panelists present a topic or the results of research to the audience, leaving time for questions and answers
  • Roundtables - scheduled in a 1-hour time slot, presenter(s) gives brief introductory remarks (no longer than 10 minutes) and facilitates a discussion among participants
  • Poster sessions - scheduled in a 1-hour time slot, sessions are informal; presenter(s) develops posters and handouts which deliver useful information to the theological library community; presenter(s) describes the poster and answers questions

Proposals should include: a title that captures the scope of the session; an abstract of no more than 200 words outlining the significance and focus of the presentation; the name(s) and the institution(s) of the presenter(s).

The abstract might also include the following elements: an explanation of the topic’s relevance to the conference audience; the context of the problem to be addressed; definitions of any obscure references or terminology; a summary of the main points; a history of the presenter’s experience with the topic.  

The deadline for submitting proposals has been extended to October 5, 2007.
