ATLA Customer Advisory

Title Lists Now Available for More than 17,000 Selected Essay Collections in Religion and Theology

Chicago, IL, November 19, 2009—The American Theological Library Association (ATLA) encourages users of the ATLA Religion Database® to visit the ATLA website to view and download title lists of selected essay collections in religion and theology.

“Many of the loyal customers of the ATLA Religion Database see it primarily as an index of hundreds of scholarly journals, but now we hope to highlight the fact that the ATLA Religion Database also includes indexing of more than 17,000 selected essay collections in religion and theology,” commented Gregg Taylor, ATLA’s Database Manager for Acquisitions and Bibliographic Control.

Essay collections included are scholarly works that consist of signed contributions from more than three authors (i.e., no collected essays of a single author or jointly authored books), and are not reprint collections intended for classroom use or the like.  Indexing of such collections may either be at the book level only, including subject indexing and table-of-contents, or be full analytic indexing, with distinct records created for each in-scope essay.  A list of all the essay collections included in the ATLA Religion Database is available on our website and updated quarterly.
