Strengths
Origins, aims, and goals of the Diocese as reflected in the workings
of the official diocesan offices, agencies, consultative bodies, and institutions,
property transfers, records of closed schools and genealogical data.
The Archives contains over 1,510 cubic feet of records. Holdings include ledgers, correspondence, official documents of appointment, parish histories and anniversary journals, parish boundaries, diocesan directories, marriage dispensation records, deceased priest personnel files, financial records, black and white photographic prints, especially pre-1970 images from diocesan newspaper The Tablet. The visual materials are particularly strong in documenting churches schools and other buildings, clergy, religious ceremonies and ethnic celebrations.
The Archives also contains records of 115 closed Catholic elementary schools and 26 closed Catholic high schools, sacramental records of 8 closed parishes, 3 closed hospitals and 2 orphanages.
