Installation of Two ATLA Windows CD-ROM Applications

If the standalone or full workstation versions of both the Windows ATLA Religion Database on CD-ROM and The Catholic Periodical Literature Index on CD-ROM are installed on a single computer, both programs will use the same database for storing saved searches and search history information. Thus, searches saved within one database may be viewable from the other ATLA Windows database. If both the Windows CPLI and the Windows ATLA RDB are open simultaneously on the same machine, the search history feature in either database will show searches performed on both databases.

Windows 2000 Installation

Installation of the Windows version of The Catholic Periodical Literature Index on CD-ROM as a network application under Windows 2000 may require the attention of an experienced systems administrator. ATLA is aware of the following difficulties associated with installing the Windows version of the CPLI on a Windows 2000 network:

  1. User Group Policy Settings: Windows 2000 network users may have difficulty accessing the Windows CPLI once it is installed. The difficulty generally exhibits itself as the ability to access the database as a Power or Administrator group user but the inability to access the database as a User or Guest group user. This can be remedied by giving full control permissions to all CD-ROM users in the Windows or WinNT directory on the C drive of the local computer. For more information, please send an email to support@atla.com or visit the ATLA website.

  2. Limited Installation on Windows 2000 Terminal Services network: The Windows CPLI on CD-ROM is configured to run in a traditional client/server (i.e. two-tiered architecture) environment. It should be noted that the Limited Network Installation is not a true Thin Client installation and that some files are installed to the workstation (such as registry and desktop additions). Subsequently, ATLA cannot guarantee the software will work as it was designed to in systems that deviate from the traditional client/server environment (for example, networks that employ thin client architecture like Windows 2000 Terminal Services or Citrix ICA).

ISBN Searching

ISBNs are now presented without hyphens. Users may search for an ISBN by searching for the unique ISBN number string in the ISBN search field. Additionally, if your library employs the Link to Holdings function of CPLI, ISBNs must be entered into your Access database without hyphens in order for the link search to work.
