Title of proposed program:
Workshop on Communication Styles in the Workplace (Half Day)
Program description:
MTLA tries to schedule an annual, all-staff professional development workshop.
We held a workshop on this topic 10 years ago, using the Style Profile for Communication at Work, published by Friendly Press. Almost 3/4 of the MTLA staff is new since then, and for the past couple of years every time we invite suggestions for a workshop several of the folks who attended the earlier workshop have asked us to repeat it.
This program provided insight into how members of the individual library staffs, the MTLA functional groups, and MTLA as a whole bring different communication styles to our work together, and how these may work to complement one another if they are recognized and valued, rather than creating misunderstanding and conflict.
We will work with a new 2004 edition of the Style Profile for People at Work. More information about this instrument is available at www.friendlypress.com/style_profile_work.html.
