Public Services Coordinator/Librarian*

The Gardner A. Sage Library seeks an energetic, collaborative, and service-oriented professional to facilitate access to the historic and contemporary library collections in support of the mission of New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS). Reporting to the Director of the Gardner A. Sage Library, the successful candidate will be an integral part of a team of three academic librarians. Together they design, implement and develop the Library's access and research services programs, offering innovative services for patrons on both the New Brunswick, NJ and Queens, New York campuses. This position is based at the New Brunswick, NJ campus. The successful candidate’s responsibilities include: facilitating information access for print and digital resources; maintaining the Library website with user-centered design principles; leading the circulation services team; and assisting with collection development, library strategic planning, event planning and assessment. The Public Services Coordinator/Librarian represents the Library in relevant regional and national associations through conference attendance/presentations and other professional development.

  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills, and ability to work independently and collegially with a diverse group of colleagues, faculty, and students.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a strong service-oriented environment.

  • Ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing, increasingly technological environment.

  • Broad familiarity with academic research.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Strong experience with general research databases and sources.

  • Professional experience relevant to public services, access services and/or circulation services in an academic or research library.

Preferred qualifications:

  • *Completed or soon-to-be completed ALA-accredited Master's degree in library and information science (MLIS) or equivalent (required for appointment as Public Services Librarian).

  • Second Master's degree in the humanities, especially in theological or religious studies.

  • Experience planning, sponsoring and/or hosting public or cultural events.

  • Leadership, teaching or supervisory experience.

  • Comfort with library catalogs, learning management systems, integrated library systems, and other library-related technologies.

  • Availability to work in the evening and Saturdays occasionally.
