Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest and most diverse religious traditions, encompassing a wide range of beliefs, practices, rituals, texts, and philosophical systems. Currently, Hinduism is the world’s third largest, with over 1.2 billion followers, the majority of whom reside in India but with diasporic communities in North America, Europe, African, and other parts of Asia. Jainism, sharing the same cultural roots with Hinduism, stemming from the Vedic tradition, currently has about 4 million followers mainly in India. Although a smaller religious community, Jainism has a far-reaching influence worldwide. Exploring the historical, philosophical, and cultural connections between these two world religions enriches the academic understanding of religious and cultural developments in the Indian subcontinent.
The Atla Religion Database® (Atla RDB®) offers a comprehensive range of academic resources on Hinduism and Jainism, with cutting edge scholarship from religious studies and related disciplines such as history, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, art history, and more.
Atla currently indexes 17 Hinduism- and Jainism-focused journals, 7 of which are full-text, a number that is always growing. Scholarship on Hinduism and Jainism offered by Atla RDB® are published in countries including United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, India, Japan, Germany, and France, in languages such as English, German, French, Hindi, and Japanese.

Moreover, the journal’s field of interest, “Hindu Studies,” is understood in a broadly civilizational way rather than in a parochial or narrowly religious manner. Atla provides indexing of this journal with full-text access.
- International Journal of Jaina Studies: It is one of the few academic journals dedicated to the study of Jainism. Published by the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) from 2005, the main objective of the journal is to publish research papers, monographs, and reviews in the field of Jain Studies in a form that makes them quickly and easily accessible to the international academic community, and to the general public.
