The scope of ATLA’s full text coverage expanded significantly in 2017 with the launch of ATLAS PLUS™ and the addition of several titles to ATLASerials®. These updates included many exciting firsts for the ATLA products, including our inaugural Korean language titles in full text. Five exceptional titles were licensed, adding significant new scholarship to ATLA’s scope. All five journals were licensed with the help and expertise of our in-house metadata analyst and Korean language specialist Su Hyeon Kang.

Su Hyeon Kang, ATLA Metadata Analyst
A subject specialist with a library background, Su Hyeon began her research by consulting the Korean Citation Index and looking for the most cited theological scholarship listed. From there, she narrowed the content pool to unique, high quality journals in four subject areas: Theological Studies of Korea, New/Old Testament Studies, and Mission Studies.
Her research narrowed the field to five journals:
- 한국기독교신학논총 [Korean Journal of Christian Studies]: A leading publisher of scholarship covering all topics and trends in contemporary theology in Korea; a principal reference publication for Korean theology departments with a long and reputable history (in print in since 1987).
- 신약논단 [Korean New Testament Studies]: A leading publisher of New Testament scholarship in Korea since 1995.
- 구약논단 [Journal of Korean Old Testament Society]: A leading publisher of regional Old Testament scholarship in Korea since 1995.
- 선교신학 [Theology of Mission]- A leading missionary journal from Ecumenical perspectives.
- 복음과 선교 [Evangelical Missiology]- A leading missionary journal with Evangelical perspectives.
ATLA’s licensing efforts were also bolstered by ATLA staff networking with Korean scholars at various professional conferences and venues, and exhibiting at the SBL International Meeting in Seoul, South Korea, in 2016.
While each title brings significant and diverse scholarship on its own, we are also very excited about the larger view into Korean theological scholarship as a whole. Both together and independently, these five titles add breadth and scope to the digital scholarship available to researchers, and we are thrilled to have them with us.
