Meet Atla Diversity Scholarship Recipient Karen Adjei

We are excited to introduce Karen Adjei as the recipient of the Atla Diversity Scholarship for 2022-2023! Karen is currently an MLIS student at the University of Maryland, where she is exploring reference, instruction, outreach, and theological librarianship, as well as administration in academic libraries.  

After completing her MLIS, she hopes to attend Fuller Theological Seminary to study the intersection of art and cross-cultural ministry, and how libraries can collaborate with artists to host spaces of spiritual formation, educational discovery, and reconciliation. When not studying or working, she enjoys attending concerts, exploring new cities, journaling, and trying out water and board sports. 

As a person of faith in the Christian tradition interested in studying other faith traditions, I was intrigued that there was a library membership association where I could combine these interests and life experiences with librarianship.

Karen joined Atla in search of professional development resources and a sense of community. As a student during the COVID-19 pandemic, Atla provided Karen with a sense of solidarity in a season of isolation. 

One aspect of this scholarship involves support in attending and possibly presenting at the Atla conference, and I am really looking forward to participating in Atla Annual 2023, as another way to contribute my observations and insights as an MLIS student to theological librarianship scholarly knowledge.
