New Editors for ‘Theology Cataloging Bulletin’

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new editor in chief and section editor for Theology Cataloging Bulletin.

Cynthia Snell, Library Director at Columbia International University, has been appointed as editor in chief. Christa Strickler, Associate Professor of Library Science at Wheaton College, has been appointed section editor. Their three-year terms begin July 1, 2020.

Atla bids farewell with enormous gratitude to the outgoing editor in chief Leslie Engelson and outgoing section editor Ann Heinrichs. Leslie has been editor in chief of TCB since February 2013. We congratulate Leslie on her new appointment to the Atla Board of Directors. Ann has been on the editorial board of TCB since July 2016. We congratulate Ann on her retirement from theological librarianship.

Cynthia Snell

Cynthia holds a Master of Science in Library Science, a Master of Science in Instructional Technology, a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling, a Master of Business Administration in Leadership, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership. She will also have a certificate in Copyright Law by the end of June.

What is your professional background? 

I currently serve as the Library Director at the G. Allen Fleece Library, and as an Instructional Designer for Columbia International University. I have worked in technical services (cataloging, acquisitions, electronic resources) since 1999 for various universities.

What are you most looking forward to as editor in chief? What would you like to accomplish in your term?

I am looking forward to working with the editorial team to take TCB to the next level. The TCB editorial team will be brainstorming what can be added to this publication to provide catalogers and others in technical service with information that is needed. As a team, we will be creating an assessment for the readers we serve and marketing the publication to others who may benefit. This will be a top priority during my term. 

Christa Strickler

Christa Strickler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Northwest University (Kirkland, Washington), a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington (Seattle, Washington), and a Master of Arts in Theology from Wheaton College (Wheaton, Illinois) in progress.

What is your professional background?

From 2003-2014, I worked at Northwest University (Kirkland, Washington), starting as a Technical Services Student Assistant who received new shipments and shelf-read the journal collection. I moved to a cataloging staff position and was responsible for copy-cataloging, processing, and mending, and then I became Technical Services Librarian, branching out into original cataloging and overseeing cataloging and acquisitions staff. Since 2014, I’ve been at Wheaton College (Wheaton, Illinois), where I’m now an Associate Professor of Library Science (Resource Description). My primary role is overseeing metadata creation and management for print monographs, while I also do reference, collection management, and information literacy instruction. 

What are you most looking forward to as a section editor? Why did you apply for this position? 

I’ve been looking for more opportunities to become involved with Atla, so when this position appeared, I jumped on it. My favorite part of my work is providing quality metadata for religious and theological materials, so TCB’s work aligns well with my interests and expertise. I look forward to collaborating with other Atla members and contributing to an organization that has been an important part of my professional life.
