Atla’s membership includes more than 800 individuals and libraries at academic institutions from diverse religious traditions and backgrounds.
Atla is governed by an elected board of directors, including four long-standing Board committees and one short-term committee all mandated by the Board’s Policy Manual.
Atla’s committees, councils, and task forces work to achieve Atla’s Mission and Organizational Ends. They are appointed by the Executive Director and are an integral part of the Association.
We meet online via our listserv and in person (historically every year or so) for professional development, fellowship, and networking.
We accept any Pacific Northwest librarians or libraries with responsibilities for or interest in religious studies and/or theology. Though the travel associated with our gatherings has tended to restrict PNWRSTLA “membership” to the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, interested colleagues from surrounding states and provinces are by no means discouraged from participating.
Though the region’s theology and religious studies librarians had been in touch for some time prior to 2011, the PNWRSTLA coalesced at a meeting at Seattle University on the November 14, 2011, attended by Executive Director of Atla Brenda Bailey-Hainer, and has been gathering for professional development, fellowship, and networking on a fairly regular basis ever since.
