Travel Grant (In person only)
Travel Grants support in person attendance at Atla Annual.
Limited funds are available. Applications are reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.
Applicants will receive preference if they have not previously received an Atla travel grant if all the other selection criteria are equal. Responses to the following questions will be evaluated:
- What areas of professional development or growth do you want to focus on during Atla Annual? (1,500 characters maximum)
- How do you expect to implement new knowledge gained from the conference at your library or in your studies? (1,500 characters maximum)
Awards & Criteria
Grant award amounts available are as follows:
Attendees from US
- $1000 USD will be awarded to any Atla Student or Individual Member who receives no financial assistance from their institution to attend the conference
- $750 USD will be awarded to any Atla Student or Individual Member who receives minimal assistance from their institution to attend the conference
Applications from US residents are reviewed by a member of the Conference Committee and Atla staff. Grant recipients will receive funds via check or ACH upon arrival at conference.
Attendees from Other Countries
- $1500 USD will be awarded to any Atla Student or Individual Member regardless of if they receive financial assistance from their institution to attend the conference
Applications from Canadian residents are reviewed by a member of the Conference Committee and Atla staff.
Applications from residents of countries with a theological library association that collaborates with Atla (e.g. BETH, ANZTLA, ForATL) will be reviewed by a representative from the association and Atla staff. These attendees may also be required to contribute a report or presentation regarding their experience at Atla Annual to a publication or conference of their association.
Grant recipients will receive reimbursement for expenses up to the amount of the grant upon submission of required documentation.
Attendees from Developing Countries
- $2000 USD will be awarded to any Atla Student or Individual Member regardless of if they receive financial assistance from their institution to attend the conference. Applicants must be working full-time or part-time in a library supporting religious studies or theological higher education programs in a country classified with a Low, Lower-Middle, or Upper-Middle income economy as defined by the World Bank as of January 2024.
Applications from residents of developing countries will be reviewed in collaboration with representatives of other theological library associations or by an Atla member familiar in conjunction with Atla staff. These attendees may also be required to contribute a report or presentation regarding their experience at Atla Annual to a publication or conference of their association.
Grant recipients will receive reimbursement for expenses up to the amount of the grant upon submission of required documentation.
Eligibility
Individual or Student Members in good standing as of January 1 of the conference year are eligible to apply for this program.
Recipient Responsibility
- Must register for Atla Annual and book conference hotel before May 15
- Complete and submit all required paperwork
- US residents – Atla Financial Form and IRS W-9 Form
- Non-US Residents – Atla Financial Form, Atla Expense Report Form with accompanying receipts
