Brenda Bailey-Hainer
Brenda Bailey-Hainer was the Executive Director at Atla. Heading up the association’s staff leadership team, she oversaw all aspects of the association, including Atla’s scholarly research tools and programs and services for members, worked directly with the Board of Directors, ensuring compliance with all federal and state nonprofit laws, conducted fundraising activities, works with Atla’s collaborators and business partners, and ensures that Atla remains financially sustainable. Brenda has extensive management experience at nonprofit and state government organizations that serve libraries as well as in for-profit companies that provide software and other services for libraries. She is the author or co-author of many successful state and federal grants for collaborative technology projects involving hundreds of libraries and other cultural heritage institutions. Her previous positions include Executive Director/President and CEO of BCR, Director of Networking and Resource Sharing at the Colorado State Library, Director of Distributed Systems with OCLC, Inc., and serving in reference and information services librarian positions at Morningside College and Fort Lewis College. She holds a BFA in creative writing from Bowling Green State University, an MLS from Kent State University, and an MM from the University of South Dakota, and she completed doctoral work in public affairs at the University of Colorado at Denver. Her professional activities include serving on the boards of directors of NFAIS, Theological Book Network, and ALA’s ASCLA Division, as well as on committees and working groups for NISO, Colorado Council on Higher Education, and various collaborative digitization projects. She is the recipient of several awards, including Librarian of the Year from the Colorado Library Association, Mover and Shaker from Library Journal, and Technology Project of the Year from the Colorado Association of Libraries.
Brenda retired from her position on December 9, 2022.
