Welcome New Members: Davidson College, EcoTheo Collective, and St. Michael’s Abbey

This month, we’d like to introduce a few of our new Institutional Atla members! Please join us in welcoming the institutions that have joined Atla in recent months.

Institutional Member Davidson College

Located in Davidson, North Carolina, Davidson College was founded in 1837 by Presbyterians. The College maintains a voluntary affiliation with the Presbyterian Church (USA), and its current Board of Trustees has set up a working group of Presbyterian pastors and theologians who are Davidson alumni and friends in order to determine whether the College currently embodies the values and perspectives of the Reformed Tradition.

The E.H. Little Library supports Davidson College’s mission to develop creative and disciplined minds by providing services, resources, and space for students to grow, learn, and develop. The library has been a Federal Depository Library since 1893 and includes over 200,000 print and microfilm materials.

Affiliate Member EcoTheo Collective

Based in Houston, Texas, the 501(c)3 nonprofit EcoTheo Collective‘s goal is to celebrate wonder, enliven conversations, and inspire commitments to ecology, spirituality, and art. Their online and print publication EcoTheo Review was founded in 2013 at Princeton Theological Seminary as a digital means to encourage discussion around faith and ecology. In 2021, the Collective was formed to join together EcoTheo Review and other projects, one of which is the LOGOS poetry gatherings, where poets are able to share their work and attendees reflect together on the poems. 

In addition, EcoTheo Collective supports two other projects: Wonder in Wyoming, an annual festival of literature and the arts, and the Starshine and Clay Fellowship, a fellowship for emerging Black poets, produced in partnership with Cave Canem.

Institutional Member St. Michael’s Abbey

Located in Silverado, California, St. Michael’s Abbey is a Norbertine Fathers abbey, consisting of almost fifty priests and approximately thirty seminarians studying for the priesthood. The abbey was founded over fifty years ago and is steeped in the 900-year tradition of the order of the Norbertine Fathers, which calls its disciples to a common life of liturgical prayer and care for souls. The community of St. Michael’s Abbey serves Orange County in many ways, from teaching religious education in prisons to serving as chaplains to colleges, the military, and communities of religious women.
