Editor in Chief – TCB: Technical Services in Religion & Theology
TCB: Technical Services in Religion & Theology, a quarterly open access publication of Atla Open Press, is a resource for technical services librarians with a focus on the fields of religion and theology. In the Perspectives & Practices section, TCB showcases projects, processes, trends, and learning experiences submitted by readers. TCB also includes reviews that describe implementation and use of software, library management systems, and other technical services tools. Additionally, editors report on new and changed Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and Library of Congress Classification numbers LCC), new publications, professional development opportunities, and other news from the field.
The Editor in Chief is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the publication of four issues each year, presently January, April, August, and October, and closely collaborating with three Editors.
This position is appointed by the Executive Director for a three-year term, with reappointment possible.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all stages of the recruitment, editorial, and publication processes.
- Works with Editors to review proposed content
- Oversees the promotion of TCB to prospective authors and readers
- Works with Editors to monitor a broad range of events related to technical services or religion & theology in libraries to find relevant content for recruitment.
- Assigns content for the Bibliography, Professional Development, and Library of Congress sections.
- Determines the structure of the publication with input from the Editors
- Serves as primary liaison with Atla for the Journal
- Works with Atla Staff to ensure timely and accurate publication of each of the quarterly issues
- Convenes monthly online meetings of Editorial Board
- Participates in the Technical Services Interest Group (TSIG) and may serve on or provide information to the TSIG Steering Committee as desired
- Prepares and submits the publication’s Annual Report to the Atla Staff
- Routinely monitors publication analytics
- Coordinates strategic planning for the publication including but not limited to new initiatives; promotional activities; journal, content, and contributor development and growth
- Collaborates with Atla to recruit and onboard new Editors
- Ensures that the work of the journal aligns with the Mission, Organizational Ends, Core Purpose and Core Values of Atla
- Serves on the Atla Open Press Advisory Council
Required Qualifications
- Maintain Atla Individual or Retired membership during term(s)
- Demonstrated record of professional publishing and/or editorial responsibility
- Professional experience building relationships within one’s own work department, across the library, and in the library profession.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Successful managerial experience or other indication of strong people skills
- Capacity to work collegially with authors and editors
- Proven ability to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with TCB and its function within and beyond the Atla community
Desired Qualifications
- Background of involvement with Atla, including its committees, Annual Conferences, programs, or other activities
- Participation in the Technical Services Interest Group
- Familiarity with principles of open access publishing and/or open access publishing software (e.g., Open Journal Systems)
